20 Passangers Escape Death In Lagos, Ogun Road Crashes

No fewer than 15 people escaped death while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in three accidents that occurred in Lagos and Ogun states on Wednesday.

VOA news gathered from multiple traffic updates by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency that the accidents occurred in the early hours of Wednesday between 7 am and 10 am.

According to an update by LASTMA on its X page, five people sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle collision along Gerrard Road in the Bayo Kuku area of the state.

The statement noted that the victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

It read, “Multiple accidents occurred on Gerrard Road inward Bayo Kuku and it involved a Hiace Bus and two Toyota RAV4s.

“The five victims were swiftly rushed down to the hospital while men of the Nigeria Police and LASTMA officials are on the ground for effective traffic control.”

In Ogun State, 15 people escaped death in two road crashes that occurred along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway on Wednesday.

The Ogun TRACE Commandant General, Seni Ogunyemi, disclosed in two traffic updates that the victims escaped the crashes without injuries.

The first crash happened in the Kajola area of the expressway and it involved four adult males who were occupants on an IVECO truck loaded with granite with number plate AAB 870 YL and a HANVAN truck with number plate AGL 885 YH.

He added, “According to an eyewitness, the road traffic accident occurred when an Iveco truck, travelling at excessive speed, collided with the Hanvan truck from behind at the time, the Hanvan truck was attempting to merge onto the road.

“The impact caused the Iveco truck to lose control, resulting in it ramming into the culvert median. Four male adults were involved, no injuries nor death.”

Ogunyemi noted that the second crash occurred at the IBB Boulevard Road through the Interchange, Abeokuta, the state capital.

He noted that 11 male adults who were occupants of a Toyota Corolla with number plate LND 979 HM and a Nissan Micra AYE 261 XB, escaped unhurt.

“According to the driver of the Micra, it was caused by brake failure which resulted in colliding with a Toyota Corolla from the rear,” Ogunyemi concluded.
