Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday arrested 28-year-old Wasiu Aliu a suspected armed robber in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.
The police patrol team reportedly intercepted and picked up the suspect around 1:05 pm on Tuesday while he was trying to flee from Sagamu to Ikorodu on an unregistered motorcycle.
The spokesperson for the state command, CSP Omolola Odutola, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that upon searching Wasiu’s bag, a locally made pistol and two cartridges were found on him.
“On March 4, 2025, at approximately 1:05 pm, personnel from the Police Mobile Force attached to the Armoured Personnel Carrier on Sagamu bank patrol duties, acted on credible intelligence and apprehended a robbery suspect. The suspect was later identified as Wasiu Aliu, a 28-year-old male resident of Ikorodu, Lagos.
“The suspect was intercepted and apprehended near the Lafarge Cement Factory in Sagamu, along the Ikorodu Expressway. At the time of arrest, he was fleeing Sagamu towards Ikorodu on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle. A subsequent search of the suspect yielded a locally made pistol and two expended cartridges.”
Odutola said the police are currently investigating and have recovered the firearm.
“The recovered firearm, motorcycle, and suspect have been handed over to the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Sagamu for further investigation. In the meantime, the area remains calm, with ongoing monitoring and surveillance activities.”
