A former Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State and Bishop of Ilesha Diocese, Anglican Communion, Dapo Asaju, on Monday, urged African youths to rise and take over leadership roles, as they have the qualities, creativity, innovation and energy to redirect the course of history.
He gave this charge at the Dorcas Oke Hope Alive Initiatives Foundation Public Lecture 2024 with the theme: ‘The Challenges of the African Child,’ held at the auditorium of the Precious Cornerstone University in Ibadan, the state capital.
The event was hosted by Francis Oke’s family in memory of their daughter, Dorcas, who was supposed to be 40 years old this year.
Asaju, a guest speaker, who spoke on the topic ‘African Youths: Leaders of Tomorrow or Leaders from Today,’ advised the youths to take over the leadership of the country.
“Use your population advantage, strength, energy, knowledge, innovation, vision, prosperity, and professionalism to take over the leadership of the country.
‘’Nigeria can be another Dubai; it can be better than Dubai. Where you will be tomorrow will be your responsibility. You’re the leaders from today. Take today and your future will be better. Nigeria’s time has come, he stated.
Also speaking, the Founding Partner of Future Africa and former Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, said African children must be taught five key things, which are resoluteness, responsibility, resourcefulness, resilience, and non-relentlessness.
He said the youths had the opportunity to lead without waiting for anybody.
In his remarks, Oke charged the youths to be agents of change.
