US President-elect, Donald Trump has vowed to deport all immigrants in the United States illegally over his upcoming four-year term.
In an interview aired Sunday on NBC’s Meet the Press, Trump detailed his plans for a broad crackdown on illegal immigration and announced plans
to end birthright citizenship in the United States on his first day in office.
When asked about deporting all undocumented immigrants during his upcoming term, Trump responded, “You have to do it.” He reiterated this commitment later in the interview, saying, “We’re starting with the criminals, and we’ve got to do it.” He acknowledged the logistical challenges involved.
Trump also said he would end birthright citizenship. “If we can, through executive action,” he stated, calling the policy “ridiculous.” He suggested he might use executive action on his first day but also mentioned the possibility of a constitutional amendment. “We have to end it,” Trump said.
The Republican politician also indicated a willingness to negotiate with Democrats on a legislative solution for “Dreamers,” immigrants brought to the US illegally as children.
