A foremost club in Ota which has very eminent personalities as members, Iganmode Club, has unveiled a week-long activity plan to mark its golden jubilee anniversary celebration.
While addressing newsmen during a gathering of newsmen on Tuesday, the Chairman of the club and Sobaloju of Ota, Hon. Chief Jide Ojuko said that, ‘starting from 7th of January, 2025, the city of Ota will come alive as the foremost club celebrates its rich collective heritage, honoring their founding fathers, and showcasing the rich hospitality, culture and legacy of the Awori people’.
He added that Iganmode club, which will be using the anniversary to launch N500, 000, 000 multipurpose building project in honour of eighteen (18) promising young Ota sons that started what has today, become a force to reckon with among clubs and societies in Ota, Awori land, Ogun state and by extension, Nigeria.
‘The Iganmode club started with eighteen (18) promising and young Ota sons that have the spirit of sportsmanship at heart, though, most of them have gone to the great beyond, but the club is still lucky to have only two of them, our founding fathers are alive and still kicking. They are; Asiwaju Senator Ayodeji Otegbola and Asiwaju Dr. Gbolabo Oyede.
These our founding fathers, both dead and alive, have laid down series of unforgettable legacies for the upcoming generations and the club will be launching a 500,000,000 multipurpose building project in their honour”.
While reeling out the giant strides of Iganmode club over the years, Chief Ojuko said the club has donated necessary infrastructural materials to the indigenes and residents of Ota over the years, some of which included;
- Block of four toilets to Ota District Council School (O.D.C), Sango, Ota in 1978,
- Block of three classrooms to Iganmode Grammar School, Ota in 1995,
- Scholarship to indigent and selected students in need at various times,
- Occasional donations to General hospital, Onipanu, Ota,
- The most recent being the donation of two (2) plots of land to Ota community for the construction of vocational and skill Acquisition Center for Ota community.
He buttressed that the club has also made it a great responsibility to protect and project the Royal institution in Ota and environs.
On the weeklong activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary celebration, Chief Jide Ojuko said the program has kicked on officially on Tuesday, 7th January, 2025, while listing other activities as follows;
- Sunday, 12th January, 2025 (Annual General Meeting(AGM) of the club)
- Monday, 13th January, 2025 (Royal visit to Our Royal Patron, the Olota of Ota and subsequently, a charity visits to orphanage and General Hospital)
- Tuesday, 14th January, 2025 (Public lecture which will held at our club house starting from 10:00 am) with theme: “DEVELOPING OTA INTO A METROPOLITAN CITY: THE CHALLENGES, PROSPECTS AND ADVANTAGES”
The topic will be discussed by some brilliant minds and hopes to be an interactive session, at the of which beneficial communique would be issued
