How To Apply For New Contactless Passport Application System

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced plans to launch a phased contactless passport renewal system, which will start from Canada on November 1, 2024.

This initiative, designed to simplify and modernise the passport renewal process, allows Nigerians to apply for passport renewals online, reducing the need for in-person visits to NIS offices.

Following Canada, the service will extend to the United Kingdom(UK), United States of America (USA), and Italy on November 15, and by December 1, it will be available in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

This was made known via a video shared via the NIS’s X handle on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

An explainer in the video was heard saying “In its continued effort to serve the Nigerian public more efficiently and create a functional system that meets global standards, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a new contactless and issuance process starting from November 1st, 2024.

“Individuals will be able to apply to renew their international passports from the comfort of their homes without having to visit having to visit any NIS office,” it said.

The NIS video provided a comprehensive overview of the new process, particularly on how the process of the contactless passport application process works.
