One Dead, Eight Injured In Crash on Third Mainland Bridge

One person died on the spot while eight others sustained injuries in a head-on collision involving two Mazda commercial buses with registration numbers LND 624 YE and EKY 804 YH, on the Third Mainland Bridge, inward Iyana-Oworonshoki, Lagos.

In a statement, the Director Public Affairs, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Taofeeq Adebayo, stated that the drivers of the buses were on top speed from Adeniji Adele.

LASTMA, he further said, facilitated the rescue of the passengers, who suffered severe fractures. They were taken to the Gbagada General Hospital for medical Care by the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS).

Police units from Bariga and Alonge were instrumental in providing critical security support during the rescue, ensuring order and expediting the efforts to restore normalcy.

Adebayo reiterated that LASTMA is committed to safer roads.He implored motorists to observe speed regulations and exercise caution.

Also, another accident involving a Honda CRV (AKD 743 HV), which overturned, was recorded yesterday on the bridge near the UNILAG Waterfront, in-bound Iyana-Oworonsoki. The crash was attributed to excessive speeding, resulted in no casualties.
