In pursuit of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and its commitment to youth empowerment, the Ota Central Lions Club has sponsored over 20 students, the majority of them girls, by providing free JAMB forms to support their academic aspirations.
The initiative, led by Lion Abayomi Oke-Asiwaju, the Charter President, took place in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to uplift young people through education. Speaking at the event, Lion Oke-Asiwaju reaffirmed the club’s dedication to creating opportunities for students from underserved backgrounds.
He also revealed that later in the year, the club will organize a mega youth empowerment program where over 200 youths will be trained in vocational skills, with top-performing trainees receiving essential work tools. He encouraged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies and pass the UTME, as their success would justify the club’s investment in their future. He further hinted that the club may adopt this JAMB sponsorship as an annual project to continue supporting young learners.
Region Chairperson, Lion Queen Tessy Nnadi, who represented the District Governor, Lion Taiwo Fatoki, commended the Ota Central Lions Club for its impactful initiative. She urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity and strive for excellence in their examinations.
Other notable Lions leaders at the event included Zone Chairperson, Lion Modupe Olaoye, and First Vice President of the Club, Lion Biodun Oloyede, both of whom emphasized the importance of education in personal and national development.
Expressing their gratitude, several beneficiaries shared how the club’s generosity had transformed their academic journey. Akande Okikiola, one of the recipients, emotionally recounted how financial challenges nearly prevented her from registering for UTME this year. “My father couldn’t afford to sponsor both my sister and me for the exam, but thanks to Ota Central Lions Club, I now have a chance to pursue my dreams.”
Another beneficiary, Salaudeen Afeez, also lauded the initiative, stating that it had given him renewed hope for the future.
Through this impactful program, the Ota Central Lions Club continues to reaffirm its role in community development, education, and youth empowerment, demonstrating the true essence of Lionism—Service to Humanity.
